Farm country with a long history
Indian Head was established in 1882 and incorporated as a town in 1902, and it has been a grain town from the start. The Bell Farm, laid out in 1882 across 60,000 acres with its round barn, was one of the largest farming operations in the country, and in the early 1900s Indian Head shipped more wheat than any other inland point anywhere. The Dominion Experimental Farm opened here in 1887 and the federal tree nursery in 1901, and the CPR has run through town since the 1880s.
That history is why the buildings here are what they are. The town has a century-old main street, houses from every decade since, and around it the machine sheds, quonsets and farm shops of a working grain district. Agricultural doors are the largest part of this run. The openings are big, the buildings are often older and out of square, and equipment goes through them every day, so we specify heavier hardware and measure the opening as it actually is rather than as it was built.
Residential and commercial in town
In town the work is residential garage doors, with commercial overhead doors on the businesses along the highway and the elevators and shops by the rail line.
